Calculation Notes & Compatibility
Working distance is the distance from the lens front to the target. The calculations use the nominal thin-lens relationship with an approximate front principal-plane location at the lens front: magnification ≈ focal length / (working distance − focal length). Therefore FOV ≈ sensor dimension × (working distance − focal length) / focal length. Actual Kowa lens principal-plane positions, distortion, focus breathing and mechanical offsets may change the result, particularly at close focus. Confirm critical dimensions experimentally.
Important: The Kowa HC-SW series in the supplied catalog is rated for a 1-inch (16 mm diagonal) image circle. The calculator flags cameras whose sensors exceed this diameter; these combinations may vignette and must not be assumed to provide full-frame coverage. Optical coverage is separate from mount compatibility. Verify camera mount, adapters, lens back focus, spectral transmission, and resolution before ordering.
Minimum focusing distances are copied from the supplied Kowa HC-SW catalog and are nominal values. Other Kowa SWIR lens families are not specified in that catalog and are not included here. The LiSA line-scan camera is excluded from this two-dimensional FOV calculator.
